U.S./Japan Creative Artist Shay Youngblood’s novel Black Girl in Paris will be coming to the big screen. Last year film director Kiandra Parks contacted her about making a film inspired by BGIP. This summer she filmed in living color, in Paris.

Peter Duus Receives Order of Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon

The Japan-U.S. Friendship Commission congratulates Peter Duus, William H. Bonsell Professor of History Emeritus, Stanford University, on receiving the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon.  This award recognizes his contribution to Japan Studies in the United Sates and the promotion of mutual understanding between Japan and the United States.  For more information click here Duus_Press_Release.

2009 U.S./Japan Creative Artist Jane Rigler’s Latest Work for Flute

This is the current version of a piece 2009 U.S./Japan Creative Artist Jane Rigler is working on for live performance for flute and Ableton Live. In it you can hear traces of people talking, coffee machines, a construction site, the street vendors in Kyoto and Tokyo, the Alaskan sounds of the humpback whales off Resurrection Bay and the Holgate glacier… and Jane Rigler on flute(s).
