CULCON and JUSFC Celebrate President Biden and Prime Minister Kishida’s Commitment to the Enduring U.S.-Japan Partnership

The U.S.-Japan Conference on Educational and Cultural Interchange (CULCON) and the Japan-U.S. Friendship Commission (JUSFC) celebrate President Biden’s and Prime Minister Kishida’s commitment to the strength and longevity of the U.S.-Japan partnership. During Prime Minister Kishida’s April 2024 state visit to Washington, D.C., the two leaders recommitted to people-to-people exchanges at the national and sub-national levels, as well as the governments’ focus on the next generation of U.S.-Japan leaders. They underscored the vital role of exchanges in nurturing the future of the U.S.-Japan relationship. Highlighting longstanding achievements, both nations reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing bilateral educational and cultural initiatives. They emphasized the impact of exchange programs and pledged to expand opportunities for sub-national exchanges; increase student mobility; and foster a new generation of leaders who will shape U.S.-Japan relations.

CULCON and JUSFC leadership were honored to join in the high-level events welcoming Prime Minister and Mrs. Kishida. During his visit, the Prime Minister engaged with next generation leaders, including CULCON-JUSFC intern Ms. Angel Bryant, an undergraduate senior at Howard University. Ms. Bryant was selected to give remarks in Japanese to the Prime Minister about her study abroad experiences in Japan and her hopes for the future. She has studied Japanese for three years at Howard University and is a beneficiary of the TOMODACHI

Kakehashi-Inouye Scholars Program. CULCON and JUSFC are honored to be partners in the two governments’ efforts to nurture a pipeline of U.S.-Japan experts.
