The Japan-U.S. Friendship Commission (JUSFC) will host a roundtable discussion at the 2022 Association for Asian Studies Annual Conference in Honolulu, HI.

The in-person discussion, entitled Placing Japan in A Different Setting: New Lenses & New Approaches to Japan Studies will take place on Friday March 25, 2022, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. HDT and will be moderated by JUSFC’s Chair Dr. Sheila A. Smith, Senior Fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations. Other panelists include Dr. Paula Curtis, and JUSFC commissioners Mr. Trevor Dawes, Ms. Shay Youngblood, and Ms. Diana Helweg Newton.

The discussion aims to address issues of diversity, equity, and access in the field of Japan Studies by discussing multi and interdisciplinary approaches to what the future of Japan Studies looks like, including, how we can provide access to academic and professional opportunities in order to build a pipeline of diverse U.S.-Japan professionals, and support the next generation of student to go from the classroom to the job market.
